Each Manufacturer has a continuum of textures/formulas for lip color, ranging from driest to most moist, opaque to sheer. In order to master texture, you must consult the manufacturer's texture and formula definitions in their product knowledge manual. The following are examples of common textures/formulas:

• Lip Balm: More moisturizing and more slip. Gives appearance of healthy lips. Great for both genders and all age groups.
  
• Liquid Stain: Delivers a sheer finish without adding to and/or changing the texture of the natural lip. No "slip" to the product.
  
• Lip Liner: Pencil used to define lips. Helps correct lip shapes and prevent color from feathering into fine lines.
  
• Gloss: Lip color with extreme shine and moisture. Delivers a sheer layer of color. Makes lips look fuller and "sexier" Needs frequent reapplication.
  
• Sheer: Glossy, sheer color that allows natural lips to show through. Does not have to be applied with precision.
  
• Frost: Provides a pale, shiney, metallic appearance. Gives very opaque coverage that is not a friend of mature lips; there is a tendency for lips to appear a little dry.
  
• Creme: Provides soft, full coverage of moist (though not shiny) color. Most manufacturers offer the largest selection in this fomula because it is the most versatile and popular.
  
• Matte: Sophisticated and intense full coverage color that contains absolutely no shine. Great in dark, intense shades because it stays put and will not smear. Can be drying and gives the lips the feeling and appearance of being dehydrated.
  
• Satin: Not creamy or matte
